A Sailing Adventure

Pirovac and Betina

We’ve reached our final destination for this year. We are laying up in Marina Betina on the island of Murter. It has a large yard and, although it is quite a lot more expensive than Italy, it is not as pricey as most places in Croatia. We’ve had an amazing time, with Venice and the Kornati being particular highlights. Total distance this season is 416 miles, with 103 hours at sea, including 39 hours under sail. The weather has mostly been perfect, some wind but not too much. Only a few thunderstorms while we were in Preko. And you seldom get much of a sea in between the islands. It is just starting to get more unsettled now; today is 25 knots and there is a nasty southerly jugo coming next week. Time to go home! We’re going via Knin and Zagreb to do some sight-seeing, hopefully including a train ride through the mountains.

Betina village
We stopped off here at Pirovac on the way to Murter. It has a nice old village which has been rather overshadowed by a large new marina, adding another several hundred charter boats!
