A Sailing Adventure

St Florent

The small town of St Florent is tucked away in a bay to the west of Cap Corse. To get there from Calvi we sailed past the ‘Desert des Agriates’ – the driest part of Corsica. Here the maquis vegetation appears quite stunted and, from a distance, the landscape looks a bit like Dartmoor. The rest of Corsica looks like the Alps! We only managed to sail for about 20 minutes as there was virtually no wind this time. We passed some lovely beaches on the way.

St Florent is similar to Calvi in that it has a citadel and old town right next to the harbour, but it seemed a bit more down to earth with less superyacht ‘bling’. Unfortunately they were having a music festival. There was some traditional Corsican music but it was drowned out by a really bad rock band that went on far too late!
